History

Canton Golf Club was built by Robert Tyre Jones Sr. in 1938. R.T. was the grandfather of legendary golfer Bobby Jones.

Mr. Jones moved to Canton with his family and developed Canton in to a leading manufacturer of denim. Mr. Jones established the Canton Cotton mills, helped found the Bank of Canton, and owned the county's largest department store, Jones Mercantile Store.

It is rumored that Bobby Jones helped his grandfather design Canton Golf Club. Pictures show Bobby playing in Canton’s first Invitational Golf Tournament in 1938.

The members of Canton Golf Club purchased the course from the Canton Cotton mill, and the course has been member owned since.
